Flute

When I was in high school, my very best friend played the flute. I was so used to sitting the in the back of the band playing non-melodic percussion rhythms that the flute seemed very soloistic and alluring. I would play her instrument outside at lunch, and in my senior year I had the opportunity to play flute in the concert band. What a perspective shift! I was suddenly in the front row, playing melodies and having to control my breathing! The whole band sounded different from that front row, and I fell in love with the sound of the flute. I have continued to play flute ever since, and had the pleasure of studying with Suzanne Jordheim at Lawrence University.

At Slap Happy I teach beginning flute to students in middle school and older. Come learn how to hold the instrument, basic technique, breath control, fingerings, band and orchestra music, and flute solos. You do not have to be in a school band program to study flute with me. Those students who are in school band or orchestra will focus primarily on school music, solo and ensemble preparation, and all-city/all-state audition materials.

The cost of flute lessons begins at $20/hour lesson, or $209 for a quarter of private 1-hour flute lessons. Prices vary based on length of lesson, group vs. private lesson, and the payment plan you sign up for. See rates for more information.
