Percussion

The world of percussion is a fascinating one. As a percussionist, you do not have the option to be “the snare drummer” or “the xylophone player”. Even on drum set, you need to learn jazz, rock, Latin, and many other rhythms. You are a percussionist, an all-around multi-faceted instrumentalist. In private and group percussion lessons we will keep that focus for both orchestral percussion and drum set.

Beginning percussion lessons will focus on basic snare drum and mallet technique. We will follow the curriculum of your school program, preparing for chair tests, concert music, and solo and ensemble.

More advanced percussion lessons will start to focus on solo repertoire, recital music, auditions, interpretation, musicality, advanced techniques, and accessory instruments.

Drum set lessons can be taken with or without also studying orchestral percussion. All drum set students will learn a variety of rhythms, including rock, jazz, Latin, and many others. Lessons will focus on technique, sound quality and how to play with a band.

The cost of percussion lessons begins at $30/hour lesson, or $314 for a quarter of private 1-hour percussion lessons. Prices vary based on length of lesson, group vs. private lesson, and the payment plan you sign up for. See rates for more information.
