Piano lessons create the foundation for all musical knowledge. Students can learn the piano at any age, from 2 to 102! Through piano lessons, students will be able to:
Beginning piano students will learn finger placement, how to play simple melodies, learn to read notes on the staff, begin basic rhythm and counting, and start to use both hands simultaneously to create music. Curriculum will be led by the teacher to facilitate development and to make lessons fun and exciting.
Intermediate piano students go further by playing more difficult music, using syncopated rhythms, expanding the range of their harmonies, beginning composition if interested, delving into more advanced music theory, and exploring new styles of music. Curriculum will be a joint venture for student and teacher, balancing the student’s goals and interests with the necessary technique and theory the teacher chooses to focus on.
Advanced piano students will have opportunities to audition for competitions, honor bands and symphonies, compose their own music, study advanced theory, train advanced aural skills, play difficult pieces, study more styles of music, and have much more control over their own lessons. Curriculum will be mostly led by the student, who will choose what direction of study they wish to pursue.
